چکیده

Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici causes take-all disease, the most important root disease of cereal plants. Cereal plants are able to form a symbiotic association with soil-borne arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi which can provide bioprotection against soil-borne fungal pathogens. However, the bioprotective effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi against soil-borne fungal pathogens might vary. In the present study we tested the systemic bioprotective effect of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi Glomus mosseae, Glomus intraradices and Gigaspora rosea against the soilborne fungal pathogen Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici in a barley split-root system. Glomus intraradices, Glomus mosseae and Gigaspora rosea colonized the split-root system of barley plants at different levels; however, all arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi clearly reduced the level of root lesions due to the pathogen Gaeumannomyces graminis. Our data indicate that some arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi need high root colonization rates to protect plants against fungal pathogens, whereas others act already at low root colonization rates.

Fungal root endophytes obtained from natural vegetation were tested for antifungal activity in dual culture tests against the root pathogen Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici. Fifteen isolates, including Acremonium blochii, Acremonium furcatum, Aspergillus fumigatus, Cylindrocarpon sp., Cylindrocarpon destructans, Dactylaria sp., Fusarium equiseti, Phoma herbarum, Phoma leveillei, and a steri...

Mitigation of chilling and freezing stresses through colonization with arbuscular ‎mycorrhizal fungi in spring barley ‎

Cold stress is an ‎important limiting factor for cereal production. Barley is a host species for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) with a high genetic diversity in response to cold stress. In order to explore the mechanisms for the ameliorative effect of AMF under cold stress, an experiment was undertaken using completely randomized block design with three factors including temperature treatme...

Isolation, characterization, and sensitivity to 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol of isolates of Phialophora spp. from Washington wheat fields.

Dark pigmented fungi of the Gaeumannomyces-Phialophora complex were isolated from the roots of wheat grown in fields in eastern Washington State. These fungi were identified as Phialophora spp. on the basis of morphological and genetic characteristics. The isolates produced lobed hyphopodia on wheat coleoptiles, phialides, and hyaline phialospores. Sequence comparison of internal transcribed sp...

Biocontrol activity of endophytic fungus of barley, Microdochium bolleyi, against Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici

In this study, two isolates of genus Microdochium (W2 and B26) was isolated from the roots of healthy barley plants in agricultural fields from Kermanshah province in 2014 and were identified as Microdochium bolleyi based on morphological and molecular characteristics. Dual culture studies revealed that W2 and B26 inhibit 45% and 20% of the radial growth of Ggt in tur...

Carbon partitioning in a split-root system of arbuscular mycorrhizal plants is fungal and plant species dependent

• Root carbon (C) partitioning in two host plant species colonized by one of three arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal species was investigated. • Split-root systems of barley ( Hordeum vulgare ) and sugar maple ( Acer saccharum ) were inoculated on one side with one of three AM fungi. Leaves were labelled with 14 CO 2 3 wk after inoculation. Plants were harvested 24 h later and the root systems...
